ATOM 2.0: proposal and its crtiques

By Cosmonauta | Cosmonaut | 5 Nov 2022

If you are following the discourses around the Cosmos Ecosystem, you probably know Proposal 82 (and counter-proposals submitted by Jae Kwon - creator/co-founder of Tendermint / Cosmos).

Voting will be ended by 14 November, and the current situation seems to be in favor of the proposal.

Proposal 82

Even if you read or understand the new whitepaper, which is a signaling proposal and not a code upgrade,  here are some counter-arguments represented by validators and such.

First of all Atom One proposal by Jae Kwon: keeping the minimal hub, accrue value through the second app-chain which is detailed in the given document. Interesting take and mostly follows the Cosmos' original vision (check out prop 69 and the discourse around it). You can read the discussions around it here.

Another major counter-argument about Atom 2.0 is the treasury.

The latest one is from the Cosmostation (creators of mintscan.io and cosmostation wallet) team which is voting NoWithVeto (the probably only way to block the proposal is NoWithVeto right now, given the chain-wide support for the proposal, with 1/3 of NoWithVeto votes).

Here is the more brief discussion (Warning! that's a long read), which includes good questions but is a complex read. There some more organized critiques about new whitepaper, unfortunately I didn't keep track of them, but I will add them here, hopefully before the voting period finish 😁.

Many small discussions are going on over on Twitter, you can catch it by yourself, through your favorite developer, validator, influencer, shiller, etc.

Have a fun weekend! Fun never ends in Cosmos Ecosystem proposals...
