A little over three weeks ago, I wrote about how Candy Digital fell victim to a significant hack. Over the last couple of weeks, the team has not only been hard at work but also very transparent about what they were doing and how they were going to make people whole.
See, the Candy hack did not involve any lost NFTs; rather, the wallets that Candy had set up for users when they relaunched were drained of their SOL. This resulted in roughly 450 SOL being drained from wallets. When Candy entered a lockdown phase, as a result, look, everyone's NFTs were taken off Magic Eden, Open Seas, etc. the SOL fees we had to pay for listing our NFTs were essentially wiped out as well.
This is where I have to give Candy all of the credit, as they are not only reimbursing people for the SOL they lost (450 SOL that was lost among users), but they are ALSO paying for all the listing fees that users have also lost. So someone like myself who had about 0.01 SOL in their HOT Candy wallet but had listed a ton of NFTs is getting back over .13 SOL without asking a question.
To get the SOL that you may have lost, you just have to enter the email that was linked to your Candy Account (this was not compromised during the drain), and you will get a code to log in...
It is easy, simple, and gets you back what is... well, yours! According to the announcements on Friday, when the CEO of Candy Digital held an X Space and their announcements:
Restoring SOL to collectors is underway. Here’s the order of operations:
- SOL restoration: in progress now.
- Wallet claim period: expected to start early next week.
- Marketplace connections: a few days after claiming opens.
- Transfers to external wallets: to follow.
If you’re seeing your collectibles move but no SOL yet, that’s expected at this stage. We’ll post updates as each step goes live.
The wallet claim period began late last week so based off of the info the revamped marketplace should be launched this week!
It is really nice to see the team at Candy bouncing back from this as fast and as transparently as they have. I am sure this was a tough pill to swallow but they are coming back better and stronger than ever!
