I will not be speaking about the genius works of huge budgey movies but I will talk about movies that are focused on script, acting and getting the message as clear as it gets. I am a huge fan of the Lord of the rings series, Harry Potter, Star Wars etc but I will be focused more and more in a bit unpopular movies . Feel free to give me suggestion about movies I haven't seen and changed you as a person even a litle bit. Ranking doenst mean number 1 is better than number 5 its just how they came in my mind. Enjoy.
1. Ftina Tsigara/ Φτηνά Τσιγάρα
Greek cinema has the ability to bring in life the core messages very easily and find alternative ways in a limited budget to give the idea of a great production. "Ftina Tsigara"(Cheap Cigars") is based on a person who has the weirdest but the most common hobby in the world. He is a collector of moments and he keeps burnt cigars, nickels etc in his collection so when he comes back to them he remembers the moments he lived back then more clearly. He falls in love in summer Athens when everyone is gone for vacations. The evolution of the main character showed me how people who seem to have no interest in live, actually have already built their own palace of personality. 2. Pi (Π)
If you ever found your self trying to unlock the mysteries of Cosmos or got in to occult this movie will make so much sense to you. A paranoid matematician is close to solve the mysteries of all time and all the universal patterns by 1 only number , the number of God. Pi stands for the classic 3.1415 as we know from school. Its an amazing movie.
3. The Fountain
Hugh Jackman stood out of director's house a few nights just to pick the role. Its an amazing production and director Darren Aronofsky managed to make 3 stories going at the same time in alternate universes. A doctor you wants to find the cure for cancer to save his wife. A missionary tries to find the tree of life in order to save his queen. And a monk in the midlle of the universe trying to save his beloved tree. Just watch it.
4. Revolver
You think Jason Statham can not act and only punch? Well here is a movie that made me love chess again, a poker player and a low class smuggler goes to prison and gets directions by his co-prisoners by chess moves . The whole movie is a strugle of the charachter with his own Ego and how he overcomes his own limits in order to take the greatest of revenge.
5. Me and Earl and the Dying girl
Three teenagers friends who are living their weird teenage lifes till one of then is diagnosed with cancer. True love encounters them and the greatness of human friendship and teenage love are coming to the surface.
