Everyone knows how to tell about themselves.
When asked, "Tell me more about yourself," what would you say at the beginning of an interview?
-
You might have prepared it well and thought it was easy to tell.
-
It is not difficult to tell about myself. That is what I always think inside myself.
But sometimes, it is necessary to self-reflect and come prepared with an updated version of "who you are."
Who you are
Please describe yourself professionally as an HR specialist, technology architect, graphical designer, or whatever describes you professionally.
Your very brief career/professional highlights
What have you accomplished in the past, and how does it relate to the position or role you are applying for?
Why the current opportunity
Could you explain why you chose the current career/professional move to apply to the specific position or role, or changing/pivoting to a new area?
Your very personal brand image also matters.
Your posts, articles, engagement with others' posts, and replies to comments on social, political, and other life issues also impact your personal brand image.
- For example, I am vocal about free and open source software, social issues regarding human rights and freedom of speech.
-
If I match their professional requirements, Elon Mask's X might shortlist me because Elon Mask's company supports freedom of speech.
Even if I meet the professional requirements for a job at Microsoft, I might not be shortlisted because the company doesn't support freedom of speech.
Opening your mind is a good choice.
-
Ultimately, we work and live our lives with joy and fun.
-
You should not hide your personal beliefs in the long run.
I always thought it would reflect my true personality to the external world.
- Opening yourself up for social issues is a good choice.
-
Freedom of speech is essential for joy in life.
Updating, or reinventing are essential to progress in life.
