Donald Trump returns to the White House after winning his third attempt for office, securing more than the necessary 270 electoral votes. This triumph not only marks a political milestone, but could also radically change the regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies in the world's largest economy.

During the campaign, Trump promised to fire SEC Chairman Gary Gensler and create a friendlier regulatory framework for Bitcoin and other digital assets.

Unlike Kamala Harris, who barely mentioned the topic, Trump dedicated efforts to attracting the industry, participating in Bitcoin (BTC) conferences and making ambitious promises, such as manufacturing Bitcoin in the United States.

Beyond politics: What does this mean for crypto?

Republicans also gained control of the Senate, which could make it easier to implement pro-crypto policies. Trump already has a mixed record in this area. His first term included controversial regulatory proposals, some of which were scrapped during the Biden administration. However, it now promises a renewed approach that could remove regulatory hurdles.

The former president pledged to free Ross Ulbricht, creator of Silk Road, and to strengthen technological innovation in the United States. This, along with its protectionist approach and measures such as the imposition of tariffs, is part of its comprehensive economic plan.

Strong support from the crypto industry

Trump received notable support from key figures in the crypto ecosystem, in part thanks to his NFT campaigns and his active participation in events such as Bitcoin Nashville. In that forum, he highlighted:

“Bitcoin is not just a technological achievement, it is a miracle of cooperation and human effort.”

Meanwhile, his more authoritarian rhetoric continues to be divisive, with promises of mass deportations and warnings of “enemies within.” These statements, however, do not appear to have affected his appeal among crypto advocates.
