How much time do you spend writing a blog article?

How long does it take to write a blog post?

By MrRefferator | Conscious Approach | 1 Dec 2023

I thought since I'm new to this blogger space I'd describe my article writing strategy. I publish in many places. Maybe this article will be useful for others. 😊

Writing a blog post

If only because of my interest in SEO, content marketing is important to me. If you have ever heard a lecture, watched a video, or read an article about content marketing, I am sure that you have come across the advantage and importance of writing blog posts. And you are definitely not here by chance, obviously you don't just come to the Publish0x platform to read. 😉

Let's discuss in detail how long it takes to make a blog post❓

Whether you start blogging yourself or outsource it, it's good to know 👇

  • how many working hours will it cost,
  • how can you interpret the price offers received?

So let's look at this in more detail!

Is there an exact answer to the question raised? NO! 📣 This can be an even more interesting guide for you.

✅ When consuming time, the following will be dominant when you compile blog articles:

  • The length of the article
  • The writer's writing skills and background knowledge of the topic

It is an obvious fact that a 400 word blog post will take less time to produce than a 1600 word article. If the writer is an expert on the subject, there are fewer details to look up than when someone is in unfamiliar territory.

It is interesting that according to Orbit Media's survey, since 2014, writers have been spending more time writing articles.

This also makes me think because it convinces me that this is the result of the operation of Google's ranking algorithm, which has a much greater impact on content developers. Ranking algorithms have long focused on quality content rather than inbound links. So quality is more important than quantity. However, ChatGPT exists, so it will be interesting to analyze the further years after 2023 in the future.

Time spent on creating quality blog articles by topic and article length.

How to write a blog article❓ Guide, how I do it❗

Strategy

Starting to produce content without a concept can be called groping in the dark. I wouldn't call it a content marketing at all.

So the starting point is to have a strategy to follow and a content calendar that gives you the next topic to develop. I think Notion is one of the best apps for calendaring and summarizing your thoughts. Maybe one day I'll write an article about it in English, but in the meantime, check out my article in Hungarian.

Knowledge of the target group

The question that often comes up about blogs is, okay….but does anyone even read blogs? It is not surprising, but the other similar question is usually directed at newsletters.

If there is a specific question or problem that concerns you, then YOU are reading a blog. What is for you, meets your needs. The same goes for people in your target group.

So you need to know what topic moves your target group the most.

Goal definition

Before you start writing an article, it's good if you know what the purpose of that post is. Maybe you have a company and this aspect. But it is also possible that you just want to pass on the knowledge to others.

For me, with this article, for example, my goal is to increase value. I would like to prove how good I am as a publicist, and also to present something from the fact that my relationship with the world of online marketing did not start today. In fact before April '99, during the Alta Vista Digital period I began. I hope this article will present to you well that I have a conscious approach to the world of content editing.

Research

You have the topic you want to write about. Then comes the most time-consuming part of writing.

You should know, that in relation to the topic:
  • What is the audience most interested in❓

  • What is a challenge for the audience, a task to be solved❓

  • In this regard, YOU can supplement what others have already written with a valuable insight, where of course your own professional experience will also come to the surface.

Keyword Research

This includes keyword research. Among the nearly 4 million new articles that appear every day, your post is, if it is not optimized for search engines, just a piece of data on the Internet that will never reach the recipients.

Collect the most relevant keywords you found on the topic.

Also write down your own thoughts that formed in you during the research.

Outline

You have the topic, you have the keywords and the ideas to be formulated.

All you have to do is put them in a frame.

How should your writings be structured, how would you like to further develop the given question❓

Writing the article

After the preparations, the actual writing of the article can follow.

Editing

When the text is ready, the work is not over❗

There are already great tools for spell checking, but be careful! There are pages published by scientific academies that take you back to the grammar rules of what and how to write. Spell checkers, on the other hand, are often wrong.

There are few things more funny than posting content with misspellings... however, feel free to place the misspellings directly between keywords and phrases by tags in your content what is viewed only by the search engines. This is a good strategy, because believe me, search engines are not used according to spelling, but often the goal is user comfort 😆

When editing, it is also important to take into account the readability of the text, highlight important details, and check the presence of keywords in both the main title and sub-headings. This is especially a big challenge if you are not publishing an article in your native language.

Visual approach

Although the protagonist of a blog article is the text itself, visual requirements cannot be ignored either. I was not at all blessed with good graphic design talent. However, I realized that colors are actually tangible mathematical values.

I only say this because on the Internet, very convenient and useful services come up for the phrase "hex color from image". I also combined the colors of the diagram image of this article with this technique.

Finding the right images, videos, infographics, or even editing yourself will add an extra experience to the end result. One of my favorites that I like to work with is ❤️ GIMP.

Taking all this into account, I would say that writing a 500-1000 word article that is relevant to the given topic takes at least 4-6 hours.

I will describe how I do it very briefly, in a few words 👇

  • I do keyword research, I mostly use the ahrefs page, as well as directly Google itself, because the search engine itself often whispers about this topic. I collect the phrases that are most searched for.

  • In every group where members of the target group can be found, I start searching for keywords on social media. In Facebook groups, Instagram, TikTok, VKontakte. After that, I look at what is related to the given thing.

What concerns people the most?
Which topic receives the most likes and comments, what do they mainly ask about it?
And I'm taking notes, maybe with the help of Notion, which I've already mentioned.

  • If necessary, I will expand the keyword list.

  • Then I am inspired by foreign language and Hungarian articles, also related to the topic. I'll look at what's been talked about a thousand times and what's unspoiled topic.

  • Finally, I add my own expertise and thoughts on the topic to my notes I will write the article.

  • I read the writing, correct mistakes, cross out what is unnecessary, write down what is complicated or difficult to understand. Although I am often criticized for being complicated. But I mostly write about topics related to blockchain technology, it is not so noticeable there.

  • I write the introduction

  • I write the title

  • I rewrite the introduction 5-10 times

  • I rewrite the address 15-20 times

  • I'm looking for images suitable for the topic. In most cases, I try to create unique graphics that cannot be found elsewhere, mainly with Gimp.

👋 Again, since I'm still new here, this is an addition to my introduction. It's just that I wanted something useful that isn't cliché. Which may be useful to those who discover this article of mine years later.
