Today I would like to sit down and discuss another story brought to us by Image Comics... If you cannot already tell, I like Image Comics and so today we will be talking about one of their bigger and more popular titles known as Spawn. Specifically, Spawn Kills Everyone!
Now typically, if you know about what goes on in any other Spawn comic, then you would know that this series tends to be darker and more centered around killings, sacrifice, demons, etc. And if you didn't know what Spawn was about and all that you have heard is what I have just told you, then you'd probably expect this type of story to be very morbid considering the dark and mature reoccurring themes that I have mentioned above. And well, you'd normally be correct to have a preconception like so. However, when talking about this specific Spawn story, most series standards go out the window! What I mean by that, is that this story has a new formula that isn't really found in any other spawn story that I have read before. Allow me to explain!
When I had first read a regular Spawn comic book, I immediately got Spiderman or Batman vibes, and the more that I read into the story, the more I started to see the anti-hero vibes and some resemblance to characters like Venom and even Ghost Rider. Now, later in time, this actually began to make sense to me, considering that Todd McFarlane the creator of the Spawn series, had previously worked at Marvel Comics and had even created the character that we all know today as Venom. And so I guess you could say I was a little surprised to see that Spawn Kills Everyone was nothing like Venom or Batman or even like any other Spawn story for that matter.

The recipe that this story follows is one of pure chaos and color explosions galore. This stories' Spawn is actually just a little bellied guy with a temper and he is honestly quite cute and even funny at times. He sleeps and he snacks and he tells jokes to the reader as if he were Deadpool or something. The artwork, the humor, the story... It all feels so strange to be considered a Spawn story. If anything this book kind of reminds me of Spewn (the Spawn Parody from Image's 1993 spoof comic titled Stupid by Hilary Barta) Regardless, The plot actually made me laugh pretty hard because while I was thinking how much it resembles a Deadpool story, Little Spawn literally just kills some random guy who was LARP-ing as Deadpool at a comic convention! I don't wanna spoil too much more about who gets merked in this story, but here... I will leave a photo below that will kind of give you an idea of who may or may not be murdered in this book.

Wrap Up
Now I think this story feels a lot more like a Rick and Morty Comic than it feels like a Spawn comic and that's kind of what I like about it. It isn't so earnest! It is as if DC's Joker sat down with the team over at image and said to them, "Why so serious?" and so they spit this story back at him. Specifically, it reminds me a lot of Rick and Morty's Pocket Like You Stole It. (Probably since they both have pokemon references in them!)

The one thing that I do wish that this story had a little more of, is an actual plotline with valid reasons for why Spawn is doing what he is doing in this book, versus the hectic slaughter after slaughter, that we see as we change from scene to scene, and turn from page to page. Now don't get me wrong, I know that it is supposed to be more of a light-hearted story told for laughs, but I still feel like Little Spawn could have had some type of personal vendetta against the Marvel characters since Todd had a bit of a feud with Marvel back in the day when he had left their comic book studio and went on to work at Image. Perhaps adding in some plot points like that, could have helped add to the humor within the story?
What I mean is that I kind of feel like this book simply has our main character running around like a mad man, just killing everyone simply because of what the story is named, and not for any actual deep reason and I guess I just like the depth and reasoning that can be found in the killings done by the regular Spawn from the legacy Spawn series. I'm not saying that it makes this story any less good... I still loved it, I'm just trying to give my honest take on it!
On a more shitty note, this book likes to use toilet humor and a crap ton of it! So much that it may actually clog the pipes. See what I just did there? Yeah, they do that type of stuff in this story, so if you like poopy humor and blood splatters in between of that... Then maybe this is the story for you! And if you are too grown-up for stuff like that and you just don't like that stuff, then grow-down and give it a try you fart whiffin' fartlicker! Oh yeah, and if you are seeing blood splatters in your own poop, then go see a doctor...
