Welcome back to my Comic Corner, for those of you who do not know... I am Coin, and today I would like to talk to you about the Devil's Reign Spider-Man comic book. This story ties into an even bigger event that is found all across many current Marvel stories, including but not limited to:
- Devil's Reign: Villians for Hire
- Devil's Reign: The Superior Four
- Spider-Woman: Devil's Reign
- Devil's Reign: X-Men
Now, to be honest, I haven't even read all of the Devil's Reign stories or tie-ins yet, but I did at least read a few of them and Spider-Man has always been a favorite superhero of mine so when I saw one last copy of the new Devil's Reign: Spider-Man, I knew I had to snatch it off the shelf.

After giving this story a thorough read, I decided that it not only met my expectations but went above and beyond them. This book was not only a part of the Devil's Reign event, but it also contains a Beyond Corporation tie-in from the Amazing Spider-Man series.
The concept here is that superheroes have been outlawed and supervillains are actually enforcing these new rules. The villains are now going by the new name of "Thunderbolts" and operating under Mayor Fisk. Now Mayor Fisk's son known as "The Rose" ain't really here for his father's revolution. Not because he opposes it, but because he is rather jealous of his father and so he wants to be the man in charge!
Now if you have ever read any Spider-Man comics before, then you'd probably know that there is always a good sense of humor in Spidey's shit talk. I am happy to confirm that the writers didn't refrain from that in this story. Spiderman is just as playful and jokeative as ever in this new book. I really did laugh pretty hard a few times while reading it, I mean it isn't just jokes either. The plot actually ended on a pretty funny note.
The bad guy in this comic called "The Rose" kind of had an "I don't wanna get my hands dirty" kind of attitude and I thought that was some strange energy for a supervillain but it was also something new for sure. Kind of reminded me of the elites that run the government from the shadows. I mean this guy sits back and just waits and has big plans in motion.
I really liked the artwork on the pages as well, the colors flow like a stream and the animations pop off the pages. There is a page where Spidey is web-slinging through the city and you can see the streamlines of air as he whizzes right past. I feel like it was really nicely done. Even the water-colored skyline behind him was visually appealing!
This story was pretty awesome and I really do recommend that you look into it, even if it is one of the only Devil's Reign stories that you ever read!
