Everyone likes to make predictions on the price of Bitcoin, and frankly, most of them end up being wrong. It’s very hard to predict the market, though that does not stop even the insiders and experts who have a much larger stake in the industry from making a prediction.
And not all predictions (even if they may turn out to be incorrect) are unrealistic - I’m not talking about McAfee’s ridiculous $1 million by 2020 prediction. We can expect it to go higher, how much higher and by when is much more difficult to say. Anyway, I thought it would be good to compile some of the predictions made by people inside the industry, so here it is.
1. Tom Lee
Tom Lee is the CEO of Fundstrat and he has appeared on CNBC many times, talking about where Bitcoin is going. He once said that a fair price for Bitcoin would be $14,500 - not far off from the peak during the recent bull run.
Lee has said that he expects Bitcoin to hit $25,000 by the end of 2019.
2. Bobby Lee
Bobby Lee, co-founder of BTC China has a prediction that more than doubles what Tom Lee said - he believes that Bitcoin will reach $60,000 by the end of the year. And it will bring will it increased adoption and legitimacy. For him, the $1 trillion market cap milestone is a big moment for Bitcoin.
3. Tim Draper
Tim Draper, noted venture capitalist and bitcoin enthusiast, has regularly mentioned his belief that decentralized tech will become a norm in about 5 years. On more than one occasion, Draper has said that Bitcoin would hit $250,000 by 2023.
4. Joe Kernen
Joe Kernen is a host on CNBC’s Squawk Box - and funnily enough, used to be a Bitcoin bear. He has changed his mind, saying that the Bitcoin halving expected next year would push the price of tokens up. He believes that the coin could go as high as $55,000 because of the halving.
5. Vinny Lingham
Vinny Lingham is a member of the Bitcoin Foundation and co-founder of the Civic platform. He has a more rational way of looking at the price - giving it a range. Lingham said that there is a 2.5% chance of the token reaching $250,000 and a 0.25% chance of reaching $ 1 million.
6. Cameron Winklevoss
One half of the Winklevoss Twins and a mind behind the Gemini exchange, Cameron Winklevoss thinks that Bitcoin will hit $320,000 in 10 - 20 years.
7. John Pfeffer
Entrepreneur firmly believes that Bitcoin will overtake gold - and according to him, that might mean a price higher than $700,000. He says that there is a 1% chance of this happening.
8. Trace Mayer
Investor Trace Mayer is bullish on Bitcoin - and thinks that Bitcoin could stabilize at $115,000.
9. David Drake
LDJ Capital co-founder David Drake says that he and his company think Bitcoin will hit $30,000 by the year’s end.
10. Max Keiser
Investor Max Keiser predicted Bitcoin’s price rise to $17,000 - though he did not predict the following bear run. He believes the price will move to $28,000 before eventually going $100,000 or above.
11. John McAfee
Okay, I said I wouldn’t include McAfee here but I did - to illustrate a point. It may be possible that Bitcoin hits $1 million soon, who knows? But it’s unlikely and you’ll get a fair number of people saying that it will - like McAfee. You definitely should invest in crypto, but don’t go overboard. All good things take time.
