PODCASTER AND YOUTUBER H3H3 SELLS 88.3 ETH ($160,000) in NFT’s
BACKGROUND
Ethan Klein (H3H3) has had a long and illustrious career as a youtuber and more recently a podcaster. The H3H3 podcast is a chaotic arrangement of lore and discussion and as a result the members attempt to keep up with current trends. After witnessing the recent NFT trend the H3H3 crew came together and produced some pretty goated NFT’s. The NFT’s produced were auctioned on Open-Sea and the auction drew the attention of some high level players.
HOW DID THEY BREAK UP THE NFT’S?
The H3 crew decided to take a diversified approach when selling the NFT’s. For each of their crewmembers 5 NFT’s were minted in the form of GIF art. The funds generated by the NFT’s were to go directly to the crew members. They were listed for a price of 1 eth each (with royalties off.) In addition to the crew’s tokens 50 NFT tokens were minted for fashion designer, content creator, and lawful good Hila Klein. Finally in a similar fashion to trading cards 2 more NFT’s were created. The first was a token of GIF art related to H3H3’s “vape nation” meme and was minted with 250 copies. The 2nd NFT was the main course and the “ultra rare” prize of the auction. The 1 of 1 NFT was a golden toned version of the “vape nation” token that also contained the viral “Vape Nation” youtube video.
THE AUCTION
DAN: 5/5 TOKENS SOLD (5 ETH)
Dan being the resident NFT skeptic decided his NFT should be an image of him selling a bridge to the audience. “I have a bridge to sell you” is a slang term in reference to the con-man George C. Parker who would sell New York landmarks to unsuspecting buyers despite not owning the landmarks. In my opinion, this aspect makes this NFT unironically the most artistic out of all of the crewmembers' as it is a perfect encapsulation of the NFT movement. To Dan’s dismay he sold all 5 of his tokens and came out with 5 ETH ($1800).
IAN: 5/5 TOKENS SOLD (5 ETH)
Ian decided for his token that he would play around with his lore in the H3H3 podcast universe for his NFT. Given that the NFT was NFT themed and AI Ian is a beloved character on the H3H3 podcast, Ian’s token was the first to sell out causing even Father H3 to question his true power level. As of this articles posting Ian’s token is 1 of only 2 of the crewmembers’ tokens to resell for more value (3 ETH as of posting.)
ZACH: 5/5 TOKENS SOLD (5 ETH)
Zach is the true golden boy and star of the H3 podcast and because of this it came as a surprise when Zach’s token did not initially sell well. Eventually Zach sold all of his tokens but a caller admitted to buying one because he felt bad for Zach who had not sold one yet. To me and maybe even Zach himself this did not seem like a true victory, however fate had a different answer for Zach. As of posting this article Zach’s token is the only token other than Ian’s to resell for more value (3 ETH as of posting.)
AB: 5/5 TOKENS SOLD (5 ETH)
AB, the podcast’s resident master of the SIMP arts decided to aim for weeb sympathy and made his NFT a reference to “Dragon Ball Z.” In my case he achieved weeb sympathy as his token is my personal favorite of the crew’s.
HILA: 16/50 TOKENS SOLD (16 ETH)
When first approached with the idea of NFT’s Hila was more skeptical than anyone else in the crew. After hearing from many crypto professionals Hila seems to have come to accept the cryptoverse and as a result of this acceptance the crypto pantheon has awarded her a H3fty 16 ETH the equivalent of roughly $30,000. I can only hope this new acceptance of crypto will give Hila crypto ideas to incorporate into her fashion brand Teddy Fresh (Teddy Tokens it’s literally sitting there it’s so free.)
“VAPE NATION” 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TOKEN NFT (COMMON): 19/250 TOKENS SOLD (19 ETH)
Given that this Token was minted with 250 copies it is not unsurprising that percentage wise it was the least popular. Even so 19 of these tokens were sold for a total of roughly $35,000 currently.
VAPE NATION 1/1 “VAPE NATION” TOKEN WITH VIRAL VIDEO: SOLD 33.3 ETH!!
The main event of this auction and the NFT I believe will hold its value the most is the 1/1 gold hued “Vape Nation” token. This token was bundled with the viral video in which the “Vape Nation” meme originated. The art and social value of this NFT was powerful enough to draw the attention of crypto veteran and CEO of Kraken Jesse Powell. Powell ended up being the final owner of this token as well as one of each of the other tokens, completing his collection.
TOTAL:
By the end of the auction the H3H3 crew had raked in a total of roughly $160,000 worth of crypto. I believe the event showed the power and potential of the NFT marketplace and I will be watching as the value of these NFT’s increase over time.
