War of the Satellites (1958)

Starring: Dick Miller, Susan Cabot, Richard Devon

Director: Roger Corman (US)

Genre: Science Fiction

Availability: YouTube

Watch Quality   B+

The audio quality is very good.  The video quality is acceptable, although you may notice some pixelation in certain scenes.

Plot Summary

A mysterious alien force is keeping humanity from venturing beyond Earth's atmosphere.  Can "Project Sigma" overcome the barrier and find the alien in their midst?

Star Power   D+

The cast may look vaguely familiar if you are a fan of 1950s science fiction and westerns, but they certainly aren't from the "A" list.

Chill Factor   C+

The quick pace and the danger keep up a sense of excitement, even through the thin plot.  However, there's not much of an emotional connection to the characters or the themes.

Mental Health Check   B-

There are some disturbing acts of violence, although they are executed in such a cheesy way that it makes them easier to handle.  The film is tense but will not give you nightmares.

Overall Grade   C+

As a science fiction story, this one barely explores the issues abiut humanity that it raises.  As a film, this one works better than many comparable "B" movies, including most of Corman's contemporary movies.  It's worth a watch, but is less than provocative.
