Watch Quality   A

This TV version is crisp and high quality, with only the commercials to interrupt.

Plot Summary

A con-man targets a wealthy widow in Los Angeles.  But when he falls for her in spite of himself, he must protect her from his former associates.

Star Power   B

The leading man and woman were stars in their day, though they are not as well remembered today.  The entire cast shines in this noir classic.

Chill Factor   B+

The movie, like the main character, exudes a brash confidence that raises the temperature.  Your date will likely be drawn in by the charm and sense of style.

Mental Health Check   C+

The tension of the plot slowly builds towards the inevitable climax.  There are disturbing elements, but less than your average noir.

Overall Grade   B

This is a well-written and tightly-directed tale of love and crime.  It's not exactly innovative, but it offers a world you'll be happy to get lost in.
