For most crypto investors losing access to a wallet with crypto in it is the stuff of nightmares. We have all seen the stories over the years about the hard drives from original miners getting thrown out and losing access to the BTC mined over a decade ago. For me, that has meant I write down my recovery phrases and store them in extremely secure locations but it appears a new idea has emerged.
In college, I took a graduate-level course on biohacking as the field was just starting to gain wider attention from movies and CRISPR had just become a success. Over the years we have seen a ton of different things people have done especially with NFC implates for things like their car keys, home keys, etc. For most of the ones I have read about though there was always an easy-to-spot and dramatic shortcoming. For example, how long would you keep a car? As soon as you got a new car you would have to the the current chip you have removed and another implanted same with if you changed the locks on your car.
Dangerous Things and VivoKey have now teamed up for a new biohacking solution to the crypto wallet conundrum I guess you could say. They have released the Apex Chip which can be used to store BTC, open a door or pay for a cup of coffee. Currently based on what I can find this wallet is able to store BTC, LTC, ETH, ERC-20 tokens, and all tokens from EVM-compatible networks. It is safe to say it has a pretty wide-ranging use case, however... Would you do something like this?
