Part of me feels a little bit weird writing about a web browser that is not the Brave Browser since I personally use Brave on my personal devices and my Congressional devices use Chrome since it is the "standard". That being said Opera, the 6th biggest web browser by market share, has made headlines for its upcoming integration of ChatGPT into its products. Opera will add ChatGPT services to both its PC and mobile browsers which is a step further than I had initially expected.
Over the years of watching different products develop something that I have noticed is that it is quite a leap going from mobile to desktop or vice versa. Opera actually highlights this in their announcement talking about how they have been at the forefront of bridging the gap and uses instances like TikTok, Telegram, and WhatsApp as examples. The exact specifics of what is going to be added and how are still not entirely clear but the company has provided some examples and to be honest if they function well could be huge improvements for people.
Opera is going to add ChatGPT to the browser sidebar allowing for quick access for individuals who are using Opera. The other feature that they have mentioned adding is as simple as it is important and that is a button in the address bar that will say "Shorten". This button will then use AI to generate short summaries of the webpage or article. As we have seen this week with both Google and Microsoft sometimes being the first out of the box with this type of stuff is not the best. Both of these companies have run into issues with it albeit entirely different issues but issues nonetheless.
That is not all that Opera has done though as yesterday I received an email from Unstoppable Domains about their partnership with Opera.
