Today begins the 118th Congress which is sure to differ from the previous two Congresses. With this new Congress crypto has already been announced as a priority for the House Financial Services Committee among others. This Congress is set to do things differently than we have seen in recent years when it comes to legislation introduced as Committee will be much much more hands-on with Members on those Committees having much more say. 

This differs from how this previously had been more or less crafted by the leadership and for an industry like crypto will be very important. By moving the power to the Committee's the Committee Staff, Member, and Member staff who know what is going on in the industry will create and influence what the legislation does. Members who for years have made headlines for their anti-crypto comments will not have the power that they previously had because now Committee placements are key. 

If everything comes together as it should, this might take several votes and a lot of trade-offs, the industry is going to have a huge win and advocate in the Chairman of the House Financial Service Committee in Representative Patrick McHenry. He will have the power and influence to put the legislation together that is going to clarify the current questions that crypto has while also being able to sideline anti-crypto Member Brad Sherman who has a history of nonsensical comments about crypto and blockchain overall. 

Hopefully the voting today works out so that Congress can finally address the issues facing the general public with crypto and partner with this growing industry.
