A few weeks ago during one of Bored Apes hacks actor Seth Green was a victim. While anytime a hack happens it is bad this hack affecting Seth Green it was even worse. His Bored Ape #8398 was set to play a considerable role in one of his upcoming projects.
Today it was announced he had recovered this NFT however the way that he did so might have been the worst way to do so. The reason that I say this is because when an NFT is stolen it is extremely easy to track and freeze which more it less will result in it being returned. Seth Green though ignored these principles of the PUBLIC blockchain.
What occurred to him is something that sadly has become more common. While it has become more common though there are protections you can take to defend yourself especially as these attacks become more and more common. So what did Seth Green do that sets precedent going forward?
He paid a randsome to the hackers. He paid 126 ETH or $260,000 to get back his Bored Ape. This is something that really irritates me because if he didn't pay it and if the asset which was known to be stolen was further iced it easily could have been forced back. Like rich people do though he didn't care and set up the idea to steal NFTs for money.
It's so disappointing to me as this space is supposed to be different and being on a public blockchain gives it that. When people do something like this it ruins it for the rest of us who if hacked could never afford this fee. I hope it is so so worth it for his TV show that the NFT is supposed to take part in is worth it. I sure won't watch it because I don't want to encourage this type of behavior.
