Earlier this week, the rumor mill went into overdrive when Specter, an on-chain monitor, flagged a series of actions that appeared to drain 600+ wallets of roughly $2.8 million. When this happened, GoMining's token, GMT, fell dramatically from roughly $0.36 to $0.30 (a 17% drop). I happened to be on the app during this time, and I was super confused about why GMT was down so much given how BTC was performing. Since I was in the middle of something, I flagged it to come back and see if I wanted to swap some of my BTC for GMT.
Before I had a chance to open the app again and see where prices were at, I received a couple of Reddit push notifications. To be honest I thought the posts were just spam when I first saw them because they claimed that a pretty sigificant hack had happened on GoMinings platform and a significant amount of money ($2.8 million) had been lost. However, these posts kept popping up time and time again on various Reddit pages and it rapidly became clear that well something had in fact happened.
The wildest part, which makes this whole thing very uncomfortable for users like me, is that as of the time of me writting this GoMining has not said a single thing about this. They have continued to post on their social media pages and run ads on various sites so they are continuing to push their name out there but they have completely failed to address the public/users like myself. For a company that is trying to undo all the cloud mining crap that happened 10ish years ago this is how you blow up all the credbility you have earned.
Eventually GoMining is going to have to say or do something about this. Yesterday, they actually raised the price of TH upgrades (to be fair they had not updated them in at least a year if not more) but the look is bad. If there was not a hack they should come out and say it but since they haven't for days now it only looks more and more likely that a hack did in fact take place. Not communicating with your users and staying silent is a great way to kill any porject. You cannot bury your head in the sand and expect everything to go away. The ball is in your court GoMining.... do something.... communicate.
