On Sunday, Candy issued its first alert over what they called an issue facing Candy users. While it was not clear what was going on at the time the actions that were taken were significant as the site was locked down.

The following morning the team published an update on what was going on and what they were asking users to do.

Pior to this second announcement on X there was a talks going around that a couple of wallets had their SOL drained from them. At the time though it was just affecting a handful of wallets according to the rumors and because of the lockdown NFTs were safe. I checked to make sure that none of my Candy NFTs had sold over the last couple of days that would have put SOL in my account beyond the little I did keep to perform transactions. None of them had sold and so as a result I only had 0.009753956 SOL (worth a little of $1 in my Phantom wallet) so I was not worried about and left that amount in just in case I needed to move any of the NFTs.
The team then followe up with another update a few hours later across all of their platforms as well as an email to each Candy account.
Even with here updates though I was pretty confused with what all had actually happened. It was then I stumbled across DC3.Wiki’s X post below that put it all into simple easy to understand terms.

Candy has not issued any new updates since and I’m not sure if it is a good or bad sign. Based off of what I have been able to track there NFT’s have not moved and are safe. It is an extremely interesting time to be on the Candy/NFT space because of people’s reactions to this. Above all else I think this only shows the possible dangers of a hot wallet AND why a wallet that is generated for you is not as safe as one that you generate yourself.
Clearly either Candy itself was hacked and that is how access to the wallets were gained or there was an issue in the way the Candy wallets were generated. Since Candy has already come out and said they are going to reimburse all of the SOL people lost (~450 SOL or $49,500) there is a solid reason to believe that this will all get hashed out in the end. How this will affect the NFT prices on the other hand…. That’s en entirely different idea!
