Every time I think I have begun to figure out how accurate Brave's pending BAT rewards are I end up being wayyyyyy outta step with the actual distribution. Recently though I thought I had gotten quite close up until the most recent BAT per ad cut that at first had brought down at least on my end ads to only earning 0.005 BAT. Interestingly enough some ads particularly ones with SushiSwap give me 0.01 BAT and I am not going to argue with that!
Yesterday I finally got my payout for the month of May and I was pretty interested in how it was going to turn out. My computer usage was all over the place I for some days I would use just one of my computers others the other rarely did I use both which was really uncommon for me. For the last roughly two weeks alone I did not touch my Surface Book and instead just used my Surface Pro. Something that also threw me off was that I did not have a true "reset" of the estimated BAT balance like I typically do. The number just roughly hovered at the same level from what I initially saw.
The one thing I had actually made not of over the course of the month was how often I was getting ads on my Surface Book no matter if I clicked on them or not. With this in mind, I expected to see a downturn in my rewards as that would have made sense to me. Again though I was off but in a good way! While my earnings were down on the Surface Book the actual amount of BAT was only 0.02 different than the prior month. Also, I actually earned a whole BAT more than the prior month on my Surface Book.
Now given what I have already said and what the title of the article is this might not make the most sense but I assure you what it has shown was something really cool. See what I was able to figure out with calculating the ads (at the last time I wrote them down the running a couple of different estimates of it continuing through the end of the month) and the amount of BAT I received and its dollar value was that Brave was taking into account the decrease in value. They also were pretty spot on with BAT's price over the first few days of this month!
For the $2.11 I earned in BAT off of my Surface Pro the amount of BAT was 3.02384. When you then break down when this time period ended you see for the first 5 days of June BAT was above $0.75 apiece. When the distribution though hit for me the value of the BAT I received was $0.69778 which is pretty significantly under what the first 5 days were. Then looking at the times it was issued the 9th had a pretty big price fall off and BAT did fall all the way down to $0.67 apiece. Looking at the time stamps though that my BAT was distributed to me it was at the $0.70 level so unlike what I believe I got my BAT at a discount.
The volatility of BAT and advertiser revenue will always make it hard to exactly pinpoint down how much you earn. Especially with the huge price decrease before I received mine, it was really nice to see the amount of BAT has adjusted accordingly and the value wasn't completely off. At the beginning of the year that was an issue, I would have as the BAT I would get and the value of BAT at the time did not really come close. One month it was close to 3 cents off if I am remembering correctly. The team though seems to have really hammered out this issue though and now everything makes a ton more sense.
The last thing I will add to this is that Brave on my end has done a much better job of consistently having ads. For the longest time, it seemed that in the middle of the month ads would run out and you could go two to three days without seeing a single one. Now everyday I get a few at a minimum and at a max I get the 5 ads an hour max which is really nice to hit! The flow seems to have become a lot evener rather than a flurry then nothing followed by another flurry at the end of the month. I don't know if anyone else has realized that or if it is just me but the number of ads I see per month has continued to increase the last few months and the rewards have continued to correlate with the value of the BAT! All great indicators to see from the browser even if they do drive me crazy sometimes with the ad cuts and other things they do!
