My Game Against a 2000+ Elo Player

The above position was from a blitz game I had against a 2000+ Elo rated player. My own rating is close to 2000 Elo. After solving a lot of puzzles, it became easier for me to play blitz. I'm able to find winning moves quicker. We were so fast, this game was finished still with almost two minutes for each side.

The game started with 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Bg5 The Trompovsky attack, a favorite of aggressive players like British GM Julian Hodgson.

My usual reply is Ne4 but not possible here because of his Knight on c3 so instead 3. ...Nbd7 4. f3 c6

White intends to take the center with e4. I'm planning to place my Queen on c7 and control the e5 square together with my Knight on d7 and push my e-pawn later. 5. e4 dxe4 6. fxe4 e5

image.png

I had to push the e-pawn already or else White will get there first and control a lot of space. After e5, I will get an ugly position but with some compensation on activity. 7. dxe5 Nxe5 8. Qxd8+ Kxd8 9. O-O-O+ Ke8 10. Bxf6 gxf6

At first glance Black's position looks bad. I can no longer castle and have a broken pawn on the king side. I have some compensation since my position is more active having two bishops, open lines and the g-file for my rook. 11. Nf3 Bg4 12. Be2 Bb4 13. Nb1 Rg8 14. h3 Bxf3 15. Bxf3 Nxf3 16. gxf3 Rg2 17. c3 Bc5

image.png

I felt I already have the advantage. My rook and bishop control the g file. While White's pieces are in the first rank. I plan to double my rooks in the second rank. 18. Rdf1 Ke7 19. a3

image.png

Here I saw a mating net. Black is already winning 19. ...Be3+ 20. Kd1 Rd8+ 21. Ke1 Bf4

image.png

Bf4 was a quiet retreat with a deadly threat of Bg3. White can save himself from being mated but at a great cost of material. 22. Rf2 Bg3 23. Rf1 Bxf2+ 24. Rxf2 Rxf2 25. Kxf2 Rd1 { White resigns. } 0-1

White's Knight is trapped and it's game over.
