Robinhood App

For Me, Advantage Robinhood!

I am an avid algorithmic trader in both stocks and cryptocurrency. On the stock ETF side, I tend to trade only SVXY, which is essentially 1/3 exposure to the S&P 500 futures. On the cryptocurrency side, I tend to trade almost exclusively ETH Etherium. I find Etherium to be solid in broad market acceptance and market cap apparently 2nd only to Bitcoin. I also add to my portfolio small amounts of BTC Bitcoin multiple times per month.

Back to the main point, I use multiple platforms, but Robinhood has 99% of my personal trades. They have both stocks and cryptocurrency in the same virtual account. Technically they are separate, but they manage to make it seamless and behave like a single account. For me, this is huge! I love it! The funds from the sell of cryptocurrency are immediately available to buy stocks, and vice versa.

So I set up my own Python and TCL / Expect scripts for trading SVXY and ETH according to how I would do it if I had consistent if / then rules. Over time I have been able to tweak my algorithm trading scripts to be more rational and consistently profitable and more risk averse. Robinhood has a trading API which I connect to with command line automation scripts for SVXY trading. Sad to say, last I checked, cryptocurrency is not included in their trading API. That does not stop me my friends! I have a can do and will do attitude. For ETH trading, I automated the web page trading. I love programming and it scratches my satisfaction itch to write a beautiful piece of code that actually does something useful, like make my trades while I am doing other things. I mean, I have a life to live. Dog park, restaurants, movies, naps, my 2 regular jobs, etc, etc, etc. Automation frees me to do other things.

Computers / automation do not always do what you told them to do. Veterans of the IT industry know this. I think we all know it really.

Here is a shout out to the CASH app which I use for the small purchases of ROKU fractional shares and BTC Bitcoin multiple times per month.

I am keeping a close eye on Alpaca Broker which allows algorithmic trading. They look very promising. So far though, I believe they only allow you to trade stock market. Again, advantage Robinhood!

Kudos to the Axos Invest app which allows for commission free diversified ETF investing. They even allow for very simple conditional if / then investing. I hope they expand on that. It is a bit too limited in scope for my taste. It has allowed for automated ETF purchases when market drops, which I like. Also, you can do Roth IRA with them.

Keep on keeping it real folks! If you have not lost money trading, then you are not a real person.

Frequently work. Sometimes play. 2 jobs to pay the bills. I like ETH, Linux, and liberty. To know Christ is life eternal.
