Timo Werner is going to have a second chance in the Premier League

Arrived at RB Leipzig in 2016 from his hometown Stuttgart, German forward Timo Werner impressed by scoring 21 goals and finishing as the fourth top scorer in the Bundesliga. Since that fantastic season, the 27-year-old striker has experienced a real decline and has never managed to regain his form. His two-year stint at Chelsea was disastrous. However, he has just signed on loan with Tottenham and will have a second opportunity to prove his true worth in the best football league in the world.

At the beginning of his career, Timo Werner had a very strong start. He quickly became the favorite player of RB Leipzig supporters. With 21 goals in his first season, 13 goals in the second, 16 goals in the third, and notable performances in the Champions League, success was complete. These excellent statistics naturally opened him the doors of the Premier League.

In the summer of 2020, Chelsea signed him for 53 million euros. Expectations were enormous. Perhaps the pressure was too much, maybe the London climate didn't suit him well; nobody really knows what caused his downfall, but the German did not really convince. With 6 goals in his first season in the Premier League, and 4 goals in the second, the Blues were far from having drawn the right card. In 2022, they decided to sell him back to his former club for approximately 30 million euros. Two years lost and 20 million gone.

Start of the 2022-2023 season. RB Leipzig earned 20 million euros but has just reclaimed a player with a complete loss of confidence who is plagued by injuries and poor performances. Timo Werner has only scored 4 goals since his return to eastern Germany. Nevertheless, Tottenham has just taken him on loan for the rest of the season. A small miracle for him.

The North London club is currently in 5th place in the Premier League. The team led by Australian Ange Postecoglou had a fantastic start to the season but has faced a bit of a challenge in the last two months, which explains their slight drop in the standings. The arrival of Timo Werner is a risk-free gamble and will likely help fill the temporary void left by their South Korean striker. Heung-min Son will indeed be representing his country in the Asian Cup, which takes place in Qatar and starts on January 12th.

For Timo Werner, this loan that seems to come out of nowhere is, therefore, a kind of last chance to revive his career. Let's hope for him that he manages to seize it.
