Sometimes I like to take black and white photos, because they allow me to highlight states more than objects:

In this photo of the beach, the absence of color allows me to remove the focus from the greenish blue of the water, the soft brown of the sand or the blue of the sky, and highlight the stillness and calm of a practically empty beach and a sea without waves.
