Aston Martin unveiled something called the 'N°001 Minami Aoyama', which is a bespoke home in Tokyo.
They said it was custom built, which presumably means it was built on commission for an unnamed client.
The point is, this isn't a one-off.
Until not long ago, automakers would sell you a car or, if you were really lucky (or unlucky) maybe a watch or a pair of sunglasses.
Now they want to sell you a home.
If you go to Dubai, you'll find residences built by Mercedes, Bugatti, Porsche and the list goes on.
The reason is simple.
Aston Martin knows its customers.
The company knows its average buyer has like seven cars and five homes.
It knows its average customer maybe can't afford a private jet, but they can afford to charter one.
And so on.
So why not sell them a home?
It's a no brainer. It's also a flex.
Imagine having your friend over, "hey man nice house", and you go, "thanks, Aston Martin built it for me".
It's the same reason why pubs sell food. The same reason why luxury brands sell absolutely everything.
And if we begin thinking laterally, it's probably Xiaomi is now selling cars.
But that's a different story.
