OpenAI wants to replace Google

By LeftFooted | Cars & tech | 9 May 2024

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is working on an AI-powered search engine to rival Google.

According to Bloomberg, ChatGPT search engine would provide answers with text as well as images, same as Google, and possibly include Wikipedia results and so on, again, the same as Google.

One engineer on X also pointed out that OpenAI’s certificate logs showed that they had already created the domain, search.chatgpt.com.

Well we say good luck to them, I guess.

There's a reason why the vast majority of people use Google, even where, in theory, they can't

Around 92 percent of the world population use Google. And we should remember that there are countries, China for example, that have their own Google and generally either discourage US-based software and search engines, or ban them outright.

Let's wait and see.
