Here's how many billions Ford lost on EVs in Q4 2024

By LeftFooted | Cars & tech | 6 Feb 2025

Ford lost an incredible amount of cash in 2024 due to EVs.

According to Ford's EV division, the loss amounts to $5.1 billion in 2024, which means the company lost around $37,000, on average, for each electric car it sold.

This is up from last year, when Ford lost $4.7 billion, but still less than 2025, apparently, because the company anticipates losses will rise to $5.5 billion.

This, believe it or not, it's more or less industry standard.

Very few companies actually make money on EVs, and most are operating at a loss, compensating with other streams of revenue, or simply, well, operating at a loss.
