AI companies are all the rage at the moment... BUT FOR WHAT?

AI companies are all the rage at the minute but, to be fair, this is becoming like a chatbot competition.

Chatbots can be useful.

So far, I've used Grok and Perplexity to summarise content and do some research, and I've also used these two (and MidJourney) to generate images.

Good. Fun. Interesting. Useful.

But is it worth billions of dollars worth of investments every day?

There's something else, too.

Chatbots lie all the time, and they make stuff up, and they're inaccurate.

So what exactly is the point of the AI race? Because, so far, we're just getting glorified virtual assistants.

However, there's another major use case for AI: self-driving cars.

I've done a complete 180 on the topic.

If you'd asked me just five years ago, I'd have told you self-driving cars were a fad, but they're not.

They're real. They're here. There's a thriving market, and it's growing quite rapidly.

And unfortunately (or fortunately, your choice) the writing is on the wall. Sooner or later they will replace, or at the very least outnumber, 'normal' cars.

Mainly because self-driving cars will become statistically safer than human drivers. It's just a matter of time.

For two reasons.

First, AI is capable of learning at an infinite rate, we aren't.

Second, self-driving cars can potentially reduce the number of accidents caused by irresponsible driving to zero.

And you know how it goes. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if driving cars were to be banned 50 or 100 or 200 years from now.

"It's for your safety".

I don't know. But, on the bright side, we probably won't be here to see it, because it might happen, but not in our lifetime.
