Mammillaria prolifera

This kind of cactus is of particular fast growth and reproduction. It's easy to grow new independent plants from its ramificactions (this particularity is responsable of the name it is given). It has an arbustive kind of growth with an estimated height of around 8-10cm.

Like every plant of this genre, it has lots of mamillas from where the spines grow (5-15 central spines and about 30-40 radials, being the centrals of a brownish color and the radials quite white).

Its a very easy to grow plant, which makes it perfect for beginners. It tolerates pretty well direct sunlight (it prefers it) but does not tolerate so much cold temperatures. Watering should be abundant during the hot seasons and moderated in winter. One should always prevent the soil from flooding as it may rot the roots.

Flowers bloom quite abundantly during a long period of time (around 7 month a year). They are quite small (1cm approximately) with a yellow-white tone.
