Odysee, a video sharing platform, has announced to decentralise the data storage. Odysee is in partnership with Arweave to reach this goal. Arweave is an information storage network that is launching ArFleet mainnet, which will decentralise both persistent and transient storage.
Decentralisation is ideal for free speech
Odysee has referred to the decentralisation of its data storage as true content freedom and feels that users should be secure and protected. The cyberworld has hailed this statement. Odysee has also described the technology as "ideal" for a platform to support free speech. I agree that decentralisation is willing sensor the sensorship.
Odysee Popularity is in Action
Odysee is already a popular alternative to YouTube, and its popularity is expected to grow even further following this announcement. Now, with situations like Telegram CEO Pavel Durov's imprisonment in France and Brazil putting unfair pressure on Elon Musk by attacking his companies, vloggers are looking for a decentralised platform; Odysee's monetisation mechanism will reveal how well it can meet this need.
My Point (Issue of Monetisation)
At Odysee, monetising your channel is determined by the channel creator's geographical location. I also attempted several times but did not receive approval for monetisation. So, I decided to leave it. Will decentralisation of storage bring more decentralisation? This is yet to be determined.
