The conclusion to HBO's widely popular Game of Thrones series threw everyone for a loop. Some thought the writers goofed. Others said Daenerys lost her mind and had a meltdown. Like Britney Spears. While tragic some believe these events occur randomly and don't require a logical explanation.

There are other explanations which are less obvious and laid deeply into the foundation of the story.

From the beginning, Daenerys Targaryen is an orphan raised by her domineering brother who can't wait to trade her for a crown and a throne. While there is very little said about the fate of Daenerys parents. We might deduce that parts of Daenerys life being a miserable one are tied to her parents no longer being alive.

If Daenerys had to blame someone for the death of her parents and everything that was wrong with her life, who would it be?

Later we learn that Daenerys father was King Aerys II Targaryen, aka the "Mad King," and her mother is Queen Rhaella Targaryen.

Throughout the series, Daenerys barely utters a word about her parents.

At timestamp 1:30 in the video clip below we catch a rare glimpse of her views on the matter.

Barristan Selmy refers to Daenerys father, calling him "The Mad King".

Daenerys says the "Mad King" is a lie. One spread by her enemies.

This implies that Daenerys does not believe in the narrative that says her father went crazy and murdered people.

Barristan retorts "mad king laugh, burn people with wildfire". Wait. How does this differ from Joffrey's behavior. Ned Stark decapitating commoners as a form of punishment. Or any of the countless acts of brutality and butchery portrayed in the show?

Long story short. Daenerys might have blamed the people of King's Landing for rebelling against and inciting murder upon her deceased father.

Payback may never be a pretty thing. Even if it takes the form of a platinum blonde woman riding a fire breathing dragon.
