The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has announced its intention to accept applications for Exchange-Traded Notes (ETNs) on Bitcoin starting from the second quarter of 2024. This is a historic move that marks the official entry of cryptocurrencies into the market traditional financial.
An ETN is a type of financial product that tracks the performance of an underlying asset, in this case Bitcoin. Unlike an exchange-traded fund (ETF), which invests directly in the asset, an ETN is a bond that issues a return based on the price of Bitcoin.
The London Stock Exchange is one of the most important stock exchanges in the world, with a market capitalization of over 37 trillion dollars. Opening up to cryptocurrencies represents a significant step towards the widespread adoption of this new asset class.
The acceptance of ETNs on BTC by the LSE will have several implications, such as greater accessibility to professional and institutional investors through a regulated and safe channel. Furthermore, it is clear that there will be an increase in liquidity providing greater price stability.
The LSE also announced that it is open to accepting other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum in the future.
While there is still a long road to regulating cryptocurrencies, mass adoption appears to be accelerating like wildfire around the world. Bitcoin will soon be a mainstream asset!
