The Dutch financial supervisory authority (AFM) has approved Europe's first Bitcoin ETF. The ETF, launched by VanEck, (one of the first US asset managers to offer investors access to international markets and to early recognize the transformative potential of investing in gold, emerging markets and ETFs).
ETF is a financial product that tracks the price of Bitcoin. This means that investors buying the ETF are buying a share of a fund that holds Bitcoin. When the price of Bitcoin goes up, so does the price of the ETF and viceversa.
One benefit is that the VanEck ETF would be safer, as it is managed by a giant publicly traded professional investment firm, which should and would be able to protect its investors.
Furthermore, the approval of the Bitcoin ETF is an important step for the diffusion of cryptocurrencies in Europe. The ETF will make cryptocurrencies more accessible to European investors and help make cryptocurrency markets more liquid.
