Let's Cancel "Cancel Culture" | To read.cash or Not to read.cash -- That is the Start of a Respectful Debate

Dear Publish0x community,

this morning I published an article about my experience with read.cash

in which I did the following things:

  • Report on my very successful (or initially very lucky -- time will tell) experiment on RC (short for read.cash)
  • Give you my first impressions of RC
  • Give advice to fellow Publish0x authors on how to increase their tips without a lot of extra work by posting on RC in addition to Publish0x

Those were my intentions for writing this article

Another Publish0x author got a different impression of my article and left me a comment on my article.

Contrary to what your first impression of the statement above might be, I am writing this article not to complain about the mentioned comment or to attack the character of its author. And I'm definitely not trying to dox him and to get him fired from his day job -- for something he wrote on the internet. (Which basically is a stylized depiction of "Cancel Culture".) Oh no, my intentions are quite the opposite:

I like conversations and debates with people who disagree with me.

It helps me to see things -- like my own article in this specific example -- with different eyes. It helps me to overthink my own points of view. And I learn a lot from it.

What is important, however, is that all participants focus on arguments to the matter of discussion and remain respectful to each other.

I'm not writing these statements for DrYunani -- who is the author of the comment I mentioned above. I'm sure, he knows that already. I'm writing this for somebody who might think that "Cancel Culture" is the standard way of "communicating" on the internet.

I believe that many people have lost the ability to respectfully disagree in a conversation. And many people have lost the ability to offer and receive constructive criticism.

By the way, I believe that I will be on the receiving end of the latter in this discussion. And I'm looking forward to it, to be honest. That's how I learn the most valuable lessons in life.

I think that respectful disagreement and constructive criticism is crucial in a democracy -- as usually almost half of the population does not get what they think they want. And all members of society still have to coexist and work together with all their disagreements and different opinions. (By the way, I would claim that riots, arson and looting are not part of democracy.)

So let me rephrase what I wrote earlier

I received a very well written and very well thought out comment by fellow author DrYunani whom I hold in high regards.

I'm not just writing this to be nice. That's really what I think after reflecting on his comment and admitting to myself that I'm not perfect. (By the way, nobody is. And that's ok. But we should strive to constantly improve.)

So, here is DrYunani's comment to my latest article:

For me writing is a hobby. Yes of course I believe what we as writers get here in Publish0x is very little, but at the same time it is much more straightforward and you only have to concentrate on your writing not spending a lot of time trying to please an AI or interact with a community. And to be honest interacting with a community with similar likes I think it is fun but it is very time consuming and personally I want to spend my precious time somewhere else. I will be writing thoughts and if it is ok with you I would like to mention you and this article? Thanks

And that is my reply.

I'm looking forward to your article. Feel free to mention me. We could even have a friendly debate or at least a back and forth with articles rather than comments. I think, this would be fun and interesting for at least a part of the Publish0x community to read about the different points of view.

I can definitely see how my article gave you an impression that I did not intend.

You make a very good point that writing should be about people. And I absolutely agree with you.

In my case, I had two articles for Publish0x almost finished when I started my experiment on read.cash. I wrote the articles for the Publish0x audience -- which are almost entirely people, I hope. 😅

The articles were already matching the criteria that the RC AI is favoring.

The only thing I changed for RC was that I left out my referral links at the bottom of the articles.

In my case it was almost no extra work to publish on RC first, get some tips in Bitcoin Cash and then later publish the same articles on Publish0x. That way I increased the tips I received for the work that I had done anyway. And I diversified my tiny crypto portfolio a bit more.

But I can definitely see in hindsight how this article can give an entirely different understanding.

When I wrote about "pleasing the RC AI" this served two purposes:

  • Give my first impression with RC and at the same time critize their choice to let the AI rule over them. (I also intended to write my article in an entertaining way. That explains some of my word choices.)
  • Give new authors an understanding of what type of article may be financially "successful" on RC

Thank you to DrYunani for his comment.

And thank you to the Publish0x community for reading this article -- and for being so open-minded to allow a discussion of a different blog platform on this blog platform.

Publish0x is the best, by the way. But if you want to increase your monetization, check out my previous article which explains how to do that on read.cash

And dear readers: What are your experiences with debates? What do you think about "Cancel Culture"? Feel free to tell me that I got it wrong and that you completely disagree with me -- if that is the case.

Prove that you are not an AI by writing a comment! 😉 If you're a very advanced AI, leave a comment, too! I'm looking forward to reading your comments!

Parts of this article were published first in this article on  read.cash.

PS: DrYunani beat me to it and published his article already. So stay tuned for my reply. 😅
