The war between the cryptocurrencies officially started back in 2016-2017 after the bullish wave of an uptrend and after the halving process of bitcoin by cutting the supply of new bitcoin generating by half from 25 bitcoins per block to 12.5 bitcoin per block. and now this supply is gonna half again after the 3rd halving of 2020 which is expected in May of 2020. which will cut new generating bitcoin to another half of only 6.75 bitcoin per block to the miners. Thus the whole market is in uptrend due to an increase in demand by the miners of not selling the mined bitcoin at low prices.
Through this method, bitcoin cannot be inflated ever. the limited supply of the coins sustains the market from crashing. but after the 2nd halving back in 2016 there comes the mother of ALT coin which is Ethereum which rose from 1.5$ per coin to 1500$+ coins with a gain of almost 10,000%. which was a huge set back to the crypto market king 'Bitcoin'. The reason behind I called Ethereum as the mother of altcoins is because of many major altcoins like EOS, SNT, BNB, and USDT is created on Ethereum blockchain.

As you can see in the graphs above, In Jan 2016 the Bitcoin market cap was 91.48% of the total crypto market but after the birth of the mother of altcoins, bitcoin has reached the bottom of 37.84% and Ethereum with 31.17% only. The Difference was only 6.67% between the total market cap of Bitcoin and Ethereum which is stunning.
So, we can believe in bitcoin being overtaken by Ethereum anytime sooner or later someday if the developers of Ethereum and other major altcoins keep struggling to produce more valuable blockchain for developers to develop greater and worth investing projects.
