Asteroid Mining 101

With the release of alpha in Farsite we can now mine asteroids in game. This opens up the first steps to fully active player interaction. With the market already open with limited function players can now mine resources with their ship and sell for in game credits.

The first things you are going to need are a ship, a radar and either a mining laser or mining extractor. If you work on the airdrop quests you can get a Moon A-1(ship), an Analog Radar I AD and a Kinetic Mining Extractor I AD. The Moon ships and the AD(airdrop) modules are the lowest grade in the game.

What you need

Once you have your modules equipped you can leave the station. To find an asteroid to mine open up your radar with the icon on the player HUD and click scan asteroids. If you get nothing on your scan then move around the system to anything you can warp to and try another scan.

Once you have a list of asteroids you need to pick one that will work with your equipment and warp to it. Asteroids come is S, M and L sizes and requirements can be either laser or extractor and in grades I, II or III. If you are using a S Laser I you would need to select an asteroid that is size S and requirements are Laser or Laser I. So you have to match size(S,M or L), type(Laser or Extractor) and grade(I,II or III). Note: Grade I will work if the requirement includes the I or not( ie Laser or Laser I). You have to make sure that you select a suitable asteroid before you warp or you will get there and realize you cant mine it and have to rescan again.

Scan Results

Now that you have a suitable asteroid to mine and have warped to it you will see the warp to button change to MINE. Click mine and you will now see if you picked the correct asteroid. It will say either MODULE UNSUITABLE or MINE. If it says module unsuitable you have chosen incorrectly and will need to rescan. If it says mine, click on it and mine your first resource, congratulations!

Unsuitable or Mine
Now that your mining you should see the miner highlighted in green as it is running. After it has completed it will have a cooldown before you can mine again. You will also have to work within the energy available for your ship.
