Introducing the CoinGecko of DeFi

Where to Find the Roller Coaster Trades in Decentralized Finance

Aggregator sites like CoinGecko and CoinPaprika make it easy to track price activity across the Cryptosphere. Crypto trading never sleeps, so it’s helpful to have centralized locations to make sense of it all.

Maybe you’re into non-fungible tokens? Great! There’s an NFT aggregator site for those, too.

Now, in the crypto space at large, CoinGecko lists 7,600+ projects. But if you’re looking for the DeFi players only — stablecoins, lending platforms, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), etc. — there’s too much chaff to sift through.

But a new aggregator captures all DeFi activity under the same roof.

At the time of writing, the Defi ecosystem’s MarCap stands at 2.3B U.S. dollars. Compared to the overall crypto market’s $267B, DeFi accounts for less than 1% of cryptocurrency value.

But the tide is shifting…

The Unstoppable Tsunami

Imagine living your life on crypto alone, only cashing out the bare minimum. DeFi allows just that. DeFi lending platforms offer much higher savings rates than fiat-powered banks ever can.

And, as this external DeFi article explains, one man is living such a dream. By working for the DeFi space’s most significant entity, Maker, Mariano Conti is sidestepping his home country’s extreme inflation:

Mariano is living proof as to why we need DeFi as an alternative to traditional banking. Notice I didn’t say replacement. We needn’t start a holy war against fiat when crypto and greenbacks can coexist in peace.

The DeFi Tracker

So, where do you find real-time DeFi activity? One such outlet is DeFi Market Cap. After using the site myself, I see room for improvement.

But don’t get me wrong, the site is excellent! That said, here are 2 items on my wishlist:

Gain/Loss Sorting

If I’m looking to enter a position, I prefer to grab tokens while they’re on their way down. In other words, when buying, I’m looking for red numbers.

If you look in the top-right corner of the image above, you’ll see “Change (24h)” which indicates an asset’s rise or fall during the past day.

Unlike similar aggregator sites, this filter is inactive. I’d love to be able to sort coins by 24hr performance. Which brings us to the next wish…

Extended Tracking

Gains and losses over the past 24 hours is a great metric. However, especially if looking to enter a long-term position, I’d prefer to see how assets perform over seven- and thirty-day timespans.

If anyone from the DeFiMarCap team spots this, can you add longer tracking to your dev list? Thanks!

Conclusion

Even though DeFi only accounts for a small percentage of cryptocurrencies at large, this is only the beginning.

As more and more governments get themselves into irreversible trouble by making their printing machines go “brrr” all the way to infinity, DeFi is bound to garner more and more attention.

And now you know where to find all the latest price action. Enjoy!
