Bitcoin against Coronavirus

By SylarHeisenberg | blockchain-blog | 19 Mar 2020

The Red Cross in Italy is collecting donations to help contain the coronavirus. In exchange, they accept Bitcoin and other crypto currencies.

Bitcoin donations are intended to help stem the spread of the coronavirus in Italy. For example, the Red Cross in Italy is currently collecting donations to establish prevention stations. To do so, it is using Helperbit, a tool that can be used to collect crypto-donations. According to official information, the first round of the project has already been very successful.

Helperbit announced that the first 10,000 Euro in Bitcoin donations have already been received by the project. After the first successful wave, the Italian Red Cross has now decided to continue the campaign. With the help of further Bitcoin donations, the corona care station is to be expanded with technical equipment for treatment.

The corona virus is showing particularly drastic signs in Italy. The entire country is under quarantine, and the daily Tagesschau fears repercussions for the local economy that could end in a financial crisis. Italian companies are still suffering from bad loans. As the news channel continues to report, Italian companies have on average twice as many bad loans on their balance sheets as other companies in the EU.

Bitcoin donations becoming increasingly popular

However, the possibilities of doing good with Bitcoin and other crypto currencies are expanding. So now the Human Rights Foundation also accepts crypto donations. In return, the human rights organization recently entered into a partnership with the payment service provider BTCPay Server. Anyone wishing to support the organisation, which works for human rights, can do so via BTC, Ether, Monero and ZCash.

Also in the wake of the bushfires in Australia, the opportunity to support an aid organisation with crypto currencies opened up in January. Here the Binance Charity Foundation, a non-profit arm of Bitcoin Börse Binance, contributed one million US dollars in the form of the exchange-owned BNB token to help contain the fires in Australia. Other organizations that accept Bitcoin donations include Unicef, Coolearth, Bitcoin Tuesday and the Pineapple Fund.
