HBO's documentary about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is making waves all over the internet and also on Polymarket. The prediction decentralized market is on fire, with gamblers betting on Len Sassaman as Satoshi, but can that be real?
It's important to understand that no contract on Polymarket is bulletproof unless it is proven in real life that the figure associated with Satoshi is concretely him, and that, my friends, is extremely difficult. For the contract to be fulfilled, there needs to be a winner, and it will all depend on the arguments and the data backing up that Len Sassaman is, in fact, the Bitcoin creator.
He can win the Polymarket contract if the HBO documentary proves that he is Nakamoto, but that can be contested if the evidence the documentary claims to have is weak and erroneously leads people to believe in those claims. Len Sassaman has more than 50% odds of being Satoshi Nakamoto, and gamblers are putting all their faith in that. But let's push back and understand why HBO is considering Len Sassaman as the most famous figure of the 21st century.
Sassaman was indeed a man who loved privacy and was a smart cypherpunk cryptographer. He is associated with Bitcoin, but not much information places him as the "creator" of Bitcoin.
However, there are coincidences that can't be denied, like Satoshi Nakamoto's statement, in which he tells his audience that he needed to step aside from the Bitcoin project to focus on other things, and the fact that some time after, Len Sassaman died. Many speculate that it was his last gesture to keep the identity of the Bitcoin creator anonymous.
The world can choose to believe what they want, but if Len Sassaman is the real Satoshi Nakamoto, that is something that will be hard to prove. As for me, I prefer the asset as it is, as I don't see a real reason to find out who created it to be relevant.
What is relevant to me is the fact that Satoshi Nakamoto gave humanity the best financial tool to help fight against oppression, financial struggles, and a whole new, better world where people have the right to choose whether to give their money to others to manage or to keep it in their non-custodial wallets.
One more thing—I just checked the latest tweet about Len Sassaman. Satoshi never used vox.com. He created the Bitcointalk forum, used encrypted emails, bitcoin.org, and many other sources of communication, but never Vox. Maybe he used it when he no longer cared about his privacy—if that ever happened! Hmm, just use your imagination, guys. Anyway, let's wait for the documentary to be released on October 9. Remember to use your critical thinking.
