It's common to see celebrities endorsing products, cryptocurrencies are no different. Many new tokens paid celebrities to endorse their ICO or initial coin offering.
John Macafee the legendary technological enthusiast did the same. He started endorsing coins and tokens. Nothing wrong in that right?
US SEC found out that like any other job he was paid to endorse. Sources indicate he was paid millions in cryptocurrency for endorsing them. He received payments in the endorsed token, Bitcoin and Ethreum.
Macafee did not declare the fact that he was being paid to endorse. Since his name is associated with one of the most trusted security software, it added legitimacy to the product.
Macafee was arrested in Spain and is currently facing extradition to the US. The US department of justice also pressed five counts on tax evasion charges.
