This man never inherited an enormous fortune, but he built an unparalleled empire the kingfisher group, We are talking about none other than Vijay Vittal Mallya. The former member of Rajya sabha who fled the country using his diplomatic passport when the consortium of lenders led by SBI  pressured to him to payback. Mallya who clearly had a downfall in business saw that the CBI was after he went to the UK.

He was once India's celebrity business magnate, His once-prestigious kingfisher brand was known around the world. He led a luxurious lifestyle and owned luxurious properties.

His airline "KINGFISHER AIRLINE" was the main reason for his present state. He started airlines regardless of warnings from his advisors and the business went into loss. Desperate Mallya siphoned off money from other businesses and loans and tried to keep up with the less. Nevertheless, he was unable to pull the weight.

The man who owned stakes in IPL franchise RCB and a formula one race team had to handover his control over many companies to partners.

 

Before his escape, he disposed of any of his assets and didn't pay the banks. The ED attached many of his left assets and some have been sold off by the consortium of lenders in order to get back their money. After huge political pressure, the former member of Indias Rajyasabha was arrested in the UK and trialed in the UK court. Mallya and his company did offer settlement proposals to the consortium, but his proposals were rejected as the consortium found it non-trustworthy.

The onetime Indian playboy businessman is now fighting the Indian governments attempt to extradite him to India. If extradited he will face charges for the financial crimes he committed.
