I find reading through old books and mags from the 1800s early 1900s about various cities will get you the names of a lot of rich people and accomplishments. I think I know more about the rich sections of 1900s Detroit then I do modern Detroit including old millionaires and what address they lived at, and in some cool cases, pics of their places and properties.
