Today, Web 3.0 seems like an inevitable prospect. Coming to replace the old World Wide Web (or Web 2.0) on a decentralized and private version, it simultaneously opens up a space for the multitude of opportunities previously unconceived. Let’s zoom in on the gaming industry: Best described as “saturated” in traditional gaming, nowadays, there’s a prospect of a renaissance in the world of gaming, with the cutting-edge technological capacities of Web 3.0. Crypto gaming is at the frontier of transition: Falling under the umbrella of DeFi, crypto games stand out by their proven orientation on the decentralized technology of blockchain, with an extra addition of the distinctive play-to-earn (P2E) feature. By combining elements of interconnectivity, utmost data security standards and the opportunity of real-life value-generation, blockchain gaming turned into a bespoke industry with $2.5 billion in investments and 6,566% growth in unique active wallets. G-Link embodies all of these values.
Keeping the community at heart, G-Link’s primary mission is to facilitate the transition from old-school Web 2.0 gaming to the next generation Web 3.0 gaming. G-Link’s focus is on mobile gaming, which has exploded in popularity with the prevalence of smartphone ownership. The blockchain gaming platform features a wide variety of P2E games, including genres like racing, RPG, simulation and casual arcade games. Users have the unique chance of engaging in the generation of monetary rewards, while simply having fun and enjoying the light-hearted atmosphere of the gaming world. The G-Link platform is also geared towards tackling the biggest industry barriers for game developers – independent mastery of blockchain architecture, and the difficulty of introducing individual games to gamers – by incorporating G-Link’s own GameFi incubator. The incubator serves to guide the development journey and funding for projects, making it possible for smaller game developers to create games on the blockchain. But that is not all: G-Link is launching its genesis platform NFT collection ‘Chief Toad’ on 5-7 July 2022. Chief Toad NFTs give holders VIP access to the platform and is utility-first, with benefits such as higher gameplay rewards and guild leader abilities. On top of that, G-Link’s platform GLINK token IDO is scheduled for August 2022. This means that early investors holding Chief Toad NFT will be exclusively rewarded in the form of a higher percentage of GLINK token airdrops and confirmed whitelist spots for the GLINK pre-sale.
Considering the scale and scope of the transformation brought by G-Link, I approached the cofounder of the project, Justin, for an interview.
1. To begin with, what inspired you to reinvent gaming? And, in particular, how does G-Link resolve the gaming industry problems?
My fellow cofounder, Zif, and I had originally been working on mobile games for almost a decade, when we noticed the emergence of blockchain gaming. As avid gamers ourselves, we were excited to try out these new blockchain games, but were disappointed to find that they were tedious and boring. We also saw firsthand how difficult it was to even get started in Web 3.0. Because we keenly understood the potential of Web 3.0 gaming in addressing legacy gaming issues, the whole experience inspired us to push blockchain gaming to the next level with G-Link.
At G-Link, we are working to address the existing shortcomings of blockchain games in terms of gaming, game development, and investing. To give just one example, a major shortcoming is the limited gameplay mechanics that result in excessive grinding. By acting as a second layer on top of the ETH and BSC blockchains, we’ve ensured that our platform token GLINK increases throughput and minimizes gas fees on the platform, therefore allowing blockchain gameplay mechanics to improve in terms of interactivity and complexity, on par with traditional games.
2. What are the specific ways in which G-Link wants to popularize Web 3.0? Why has mobile gaming been chosen as a starting point?
G-Link aims to introduce Web 2.0 users to Web 3.0 through mobile gaming. Mobile gaming is a widespread pastime worldwide, with mobile gamers comprising an estimated 82.8% of gamers worldwide in 2021, or around 2.65 billion. From the technical perspective, the industry consensus is that mobile games’ relatively casual mechanics make them more blockchain-ready.
The G-Link ecosystem is designed to prioritise the incorporation of Web 2.0’s element of accessibility: Users do not need any knowledge of Web 3.0 and can immediately start playing with a simple, familiar account registration. Similarly, G-Link’s blockchain games incorporate traditional games’ formats to make gameplay intuitive, such as having familiar in-game shops that nevertheless allow players to receive true asset ownership in Web 3.0. Overall, the G-Link platform minimizes the need for gamers to interface directly with blockchain technology.
By ensuring a Web 2.0-style user-friendly experience, we believe we will be able to help a wider group of people seamlessly transition onto the blockchain, beginning with enjoying mobile blockchain games.
3. Please, tell us more about the technology underpinning G-Link. What makes it so distinct?
With G-Link’s underlying technology, we’re constantly seeking to make it as seamless as possible for Web 2.0 users to take their first step into Web 3.0, by stripping away the challenge of interacting with the blockchain. For instance, G-Link integrates with the mobile blockchain games listed on our gameverse platform, such that the account registration process is familiar to Web 2.0 users, and their platform accounts also unlock access to individual games. As for the GSwap technology, we implemented relational databases to build an underlying system that enables token liquidity and minimizes gas fees.
4. Can you elaborate on the ways in which anyone can start earning money while playing the games by G-Link?
Gamers can earn money on G-Link by playing to earn in-game tokens or valuable in-game NFTs. Aside from gaming, investors can participate in staking of GLINK tokens, to earn passive income.
5. I would be excited to hear more about the types of games available on G-Link. What makes them both different and alike?
G-Link’s focus is on casual to mid-core mobile blockchain games. We believe there is a gap in the market for these types of games, as we’ve mainly been seeing blockchain games created for desktop or hyper-casual games that tend to be repetitive and limited.
We have four mobile blockchain games already in the midst of preparations for release. Two of them fall into the mid-core category: Card Master, a collectible card game, and SPE Colony, a simulation kingdom-building game. The other two are casual: Kartopia, a racetrack game, and the arcade-style Coin Fishing Frenzy. Essentially, the mid-core games Card Master and SPE Colony are more strategy-based, while the more straightforward Kartopia and Coin Fishing Frenzy are perfect for some relaxed fun with others on social occasions.
6. What are the primary advantages of holding Chief Toad NFT?
Chief Toad NFT holders are given VIP membership to the G-Link platform, with benefits including higher in-game earnings, guild creation ability, early access to games in beta and virtual land sales. In addition, those who hold the Chief Toad NFT until G-Link’s token IDO can enjoy a higher percentage of the GLINK token airdrops and whitelist for the pre-sale.
7. Personally, I was particularly drawn by the idea of GameFi incubator. Could you explain how anyone can take advantage of that?
We created the GameFi incubator feature with smaller and indie game developers in mind. The aim of the incubator is to enable smaller game developers to create their dream blockchain games, by providing support via funding and a ready market to launch in. Two types of funding are available – crowdfunding from the gaming community on the platform, and G-Link’s own allocated funds set aside for supporting innovation.
Gamers and investors also stand to benefit from the incubator. For gamers, the incubator provides a means of engaging more directly and meaningfully with the game development process, by crowdfunding or giving feedback. Meanwhile, investors can choose from a diverse pool of projects to back, with the assurance that their investments are deployed transparently.
8. Now regarding the GLINK token: What are its main use cases, and why should readers participate in the IDO?
GLINK is the G-Link platform’s utility token, which functions as a medium of exchange via the GSwap feature. With GSwap, gamers can easily exchange between in-game currencies and safely trade items with others, meaning that gamers will be able to switch between games at any time and still retain their earnings.
Readers who understand the investment potential of G-Link should participate in the IDO. By being the earliest holders of the GLINK token, investors will be advantaged in staking for higher yields, as well as hold DAO voting rights and be able to use GLINK in ways including purchasing virtual lands and backing incubator projects.
9. Ahead of the upcoming G-Link’s IDO, what can the community look forward to?
Leading up to the GLINK platform token IDO, Chief Toad NFT holders can look forward to GLINK token airdrops. We will also set up community events on our Discord, so that our community can join in the beta testing for our upcoming games – many exciting activities up ahead that we hope our community will enjoy!
10. Last but not least - what waits for G-Link in the times ahead?
We will continue to release even more games on our platform, with the aim of becoming the biggest mobile blockchain games marketplace that is the go-to for every gamer to explore new games. G-Link will continue to work with our growing community of game developers to make the next generation of blockchain games, which not only allow players to earn, but will also truly entertain gamers.
