When the BitGreen project first launched, the goal was clear: to offer a sustainable alternative to Bitcoin. The founding team was inspired by the incredible potential unlocked in the Satoshi whitepaper, yect as global adoption of Bitcoin grew, so did the waste left in its wake — energy use rivaling European countries, all in pursuit of digital gold. So we did something about it, and brought BitGreen to life.
Fast forward to 2020, with a mature BitGreen project that has achieved the team’s original vision, supported by thousands of community members. While some may label the project a success, we don’t — not yet. Simply put, while we realized the original intention of BitGreen, our impact on the world is negligible. BitGreen will likely not replace BitCoin. Not anytime soon, at least. Moreover, there is much more potential for impact in the blockchain than just store of value.
This is why we opened 2020 with our Impact Manifesto, and this is why the core team has been so busy building out a growing ecosystem of sustainable vendors, charities, impact activities and other partners. And, more presently, this is why we are proud to announce the release of our mobile wallet app. The BitGreen project is here to serve as the world’s impact currency — catalyzing millions of impactful everyday actions taken by millions of change heroes like you.
The BitGreen mobile wallet app is where it all lives. It is in the app where users will be able to seamlessly buy, send, receive and store BITG. It is where users will be able to discover a growing number of ways to earn BITG for taking impactful actions — from volunteering, to shopping consciously, to recycling and more. It’ll be here where members of the community can discover mission-aligned businesses and charities that accept and even reward in BITG. It is the BitGreen mobile wallet that will serve as the dashboard for a global impact currency, adopted by a global movement of individuals like you who know that everyday decisions do count, and can help shape a better future we deserve.
