Most of my crypto is away from CEXs but I still have some, including in a crypto exchange I've been using for ages - longer than any other exchange.

I recently got three annoying emails from them asking me for proof of address - so far so normal - except for the fact they're assuming an address change that hasn't happened.

To cut a long story short, they got in touch with me asking me to provide proof of address from country XY, whereas I still reside in country XYZ.

Why? Because I travel a lot, and spend a lot of time in a specific country, and they're assuming that's my new residence, but it isn't.

This is another problem of the modern world, because institutions want it both ways. Several people work remotely and spend a significant amount of time in countries they don't reside in. I'm one of them.

So what exactly am I supposed to do? Provide proof of address of every country I visit more twice a year?

The email they sent me said I 'seem to conduct most operations from ** country' - further proof VPNs are not as fireproof as we think, by the way - so 'please provide proof of address'.

To which I replied with the truth - honesty is almost always the best policy.

I wrote, "my address has never changed. I spend time in country XY because I travel a lot and I like this place. I do NOT have a residence address here of any kind".

Hopefully that's gonna be enough but I suspect it might not be.

Solution? I can only think of one: I'll withdraw/spend funds from this exchange and move on.
