After a few years, or maybe decades, crypto thieves have apparently finally figured it out: crypto is digitally safe.
Unfortunately, this means they decided to go old school and rob people.
So-called wrench attacks are on the rise: there have been 52 verified incidents so far (vs. 39 in H1 2025), which doesn't sound like a huge increase but it gets worse.
First, it gets worse because last year, in the first half of the 2025, around $10.5 worth crypto had been stolen.
This year, we're already at $124 million.
That's a +1,000 percent increase.
Also, while the number of kidnappings remained largely similar (12 last year versus 16 this year), the number of home invasions shot up: 20 this year, only 1 last year.
Geographically, the threat has concentrated heavily in Western Europe - are we surprised?
The region accounted for 39 of 52 global cases, with France being the primary hotspot.
The takeaway? If you hold crypto, don't advertise it.
Especially if you live in France.
