This crypto was like an industry joke, but perhaps we should take it seriously now

The biggest joke in the crypto industry, in my personal view, is PI Network. But it's a joke that's no longer funny.

The other joke, which clearly isn't a joke, was Helium. It started out as an obscure crypto project, no one really knew how it worked or what it was for. And it was one of those projects where you need to spend first to earn later.

You had to buy a device, sort of like a mining device. A few friends asked me about it through the years, and my answer was always the same.

"I'm not interested in that," is what I always told them.

And I'm still not particularly interested, but there's news about Helium that made headlines, and it's big news.

Telecommunications giant Telefonica partnered up with Nova Labs, the company behind the Helium Network, to reduce infrastructure costs.

The idea is to use Helium Mobile Hotspots to expand its coverage in Mexico, particularly in remote areas.

I thought Helium was a bit of a vaporware project, a bit of a nothingburger.

Well, it seems I was wrong.
