Several countries still offer golden visa programmes, most of which also integrate crypto in some way, shape or form.

However, several other countries are no longer offering such programmes.

Why? The reasons cited are the usual combination of money laundering, housing market distortions and national security.

Malta is no longer offering it because the EU says it's illegal.

Bulgaria and Cyprus also ended their programmes, as did Spain, mostly because of rising housing costs.

Portugal is still offering it, but it'll be harder to get both residency and citizenship.

Other countries, including the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Montenegro and even Moldova also stopped offering similar programmes.

Get real

I have a real-world approach to these things.

This is reality: there are people with money, and people with money go where they're treated best. That's never going to change.

Getting rid of something your neighbour is still offering is a bad strategy.

Let's imagine I own a restaurant, one of many in my town, and I don't like people consuming alcohol. Let's imagine I ban sale of alcohol in my establishment.

Now, what do I think is gonna happen? Do I think people will stop drinking alcohol, or do I think people will simply go drink alcohol somewhere else.

No ban ever works unless it's fully global. And banning something globally is impossible.

Translated, crypto bros will simply turn to countries that are still offering golden visas.

People - and especially countries - really need to wishing things they don't like away.

It's just silly.
