How many social media apps do you use? And how many are there on your phone?
I'm willing to be the second number is significantly bigger than the first one.
I recently got a new phone but because I'm lazy, I still haven't transferred all my data from the old phone to the new.
When you buy a new phone, you usually start with apps you use daily, and for me and most people that'd be WhatsApp, maybe Insta, maybe FB, maybe some bank stuff, maybe some crypto stuff, email and so on.
Again like most people, I'm also signed up to a thousand apps I never use, and that includes Clubhouse.
Remember Clubhouse? It was all the rage in 2021 and early 2022. It's a VOIP-based app, as in it's entirely voice-based. No pictures, no videos, no text. You create groups called 'rooms', and chat to people. Kinda like a shared a podcast.
I used it a bit in 2021, sort of like a personalized radio channel, and then again a bit in 2022. And then forgot all about it.
Moving on we've got X, or Twitter, as most people still call it.
I'm signed up to X but I haven't 'XED' (ie, tweeted) anything for years.
Also, I've lost my password but I'm pretty sure I still have an account on MySpace.
And then you've got the social media apps that are also something else, like Badoo (social media + dating app), Couchsurfing (social + travel) and the list goes on.
The problem is even apps that have nothing or very little to do with social aspects are adding social-like feature. There's a new messaging feature in the Coinbase Wallet app, for example. Have you noticed?
It's getting out of hand, and I shiver at the thought of how many apps have access to my data. Dang it.
