"No KYC no service" - Yes, mate, but my face is unrecognizable

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 21 Jul 2023

I broke my jaw and nose about a week ago, and even though I'm recovering pretty quickly, my face is still barely recognizable.

Apple's FaceID, for example, recognizes my facial features about twice for every ten attempts.

Ironically, just around the same time that happened I got an email from Kroll, the company that's overseeing FTX restructuring for EU users, asking me to KYC to retrieve my money.

The good news is have about $10 worth of BTC in FTX so it's not the end of the world.

The bad news is I can't KYC because the system is automated, and the automated system is stupid.

One, it says I can't upload a bank statement as proof of address if it's just a screenshot.

Right, except I bank at an online bank that does not have any physical presence. And it does not issue any physical paperwork. So the screenshot is all I got, and all that's available.

The second one issue is the automated KYC process does not recognize my selfie.

This is because my face is full of bruises and stitches and patches, and I have a broken nose and a broken jaw.

Look at the bright side, maybe computers won't replace us, because they're stupid. A human being would understand this. A robot doesn't.

Moving right along, KuCoin, which I should stress I only use(d) for AMPL and ETH here from Publish0x, is also requiring KYC.

There are two problems with that.

One, I actually tried to do that a while back and the KYC failed and, out of principle, I never try the KYC twice.

Why? Because if it doesn't work the first time, it means the system they're using is crap, and it's not worth my time.

Am I too arrogant? I don't think I am. I've had to KYC for crypto stuff maybe twenty times and only had issues twice: KuCoin and Cake DeFi.

So either every other crypto exchange on the planet and only these two are right. Or... You get the gist.

The second issue is that even if I stopped being stubborn and tried to KYC with KuCoin, it wouldn't work.

Because like I said my face is currently broken.

Guess I'll wait and just send crypto to my hot wallets.
