Telegram-hosted web3 game Hamster Kombat was all the range for about five minutes, quickly reaching 300 million users and breaking several YouTube records in the process with its related channel, but the enthusiasm faded quite rapidly.

Mind you, according to Hamster Kombat themselves, this was “expected”.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, a spokesperson for Hamster Kombat said their “project has seasons, this [decline] is expected. We’re currently in the interlude period, preparing to launch the second season.”

More importantly, the spokesperson said there are currently 11 million HMSTR token holders.

“We now have over 11 million token holders, allowing us to compete with the top blockchains”, the spokesperson said.

“We plan to increase the number of holders and enter new markets.”

Still, Telegram has been evolving, from social messaging app to social messaging app AND crypto app AND web browsers and so on.

Like so many other apps, Telegram seems determined to become a one-stop shop app, a superapp where you can do anything and everything.
